Doug has a question about his Fantasy Baseball draft.
Hey man, not sure if you do Fantasy Baseball or not but I'm just getting into it for the first time with some friends, so they were nice enough to give me the very first overall pick. But they're saying I should draft a rookie pitcher to track their progress, and I think it's a bad idea. Suggestions?
Answer: Yeah, your friends are just being flaming bags of poop and trying to screw you over with your picks. (Which I would TOTALLY do to my buddies if they were joining a league for the first time.) If you have first overall pick of the entire draft, DEFINITELY go with a big bat. I'd say go with either Albert Pujols or Ryan Howard -- they're pretty even. I know some people who go for aces with their first picks, but I think it's pretty important to get a sa-weet line-up in there. There's always gonna be plenty of pitchers to choose from, one pitchers you can switch in and out for spot starts during the season -- but you need a GOOD offense to stay at the top of your league.
Just don't do what I did my very first season of Fantasy, and pick Jason Varitek with the overall first pick "because he's my homeboy." Yeah -- needless to say I did about as well that season as Tiger Woods in his marriage.
